PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM

Crystal Beran
Performing Arts Teacher

SY 2009-2010 Program

Innovations Performing Arts Program gives students opportunities to explore the worlds of drama and music in an integrated and process-oriented setting. Students attend class twice a week with specialist, Crystal Beran, where creativity and imagination are fostered.

The Music Program actively engages students in the music making process with a goal of musical independence. The mediums through which students participate include:

singing
reading music
moving
improvising

using speech
playing instruments
using body percussion
responding

setting sound
writing music
listening
evaluating

An understanding of music is gained through the sequenced development of concepts based on the elements of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, timbre, form, expression, history and style, and composition and performance.

Innovations Drama Program addresses four basic domains of learning:

  • Psychomotor--developing perceptual and expressive skills and techniques
  • Cognitive--assimilating knowledge and developing higher order thinking skills
  • Affective--cultivating positive attitudes towards art and the discipline or are, and about themselves in relation to art
  • Aesthetic--deriving pleasure from a combination of senses, emotions, intellect, philosophy, imagination and spirit

Units of study are integrated with core curriculum units to create a whole learning approach for students.

Visit Ms. Crystal's Website for grade level details and updates.
