Jr. Lifesaving Club

Students looked forward to their trip to the Kona Aquatic center every Wednesday where they received Jr. Lifesaving skills from Hoku Kimitete of Hawaii County Lifeguards. These10 students in the 5th and 6th grade learned lifesaving techniques and developed confidence in water safety awareness through Kimitete's Junior Lifeguard Program. These students will now be able to provide another set of watchful eyes at the local beaches they surf and play in daily as well as demonstrate the water safety behaviors they have learned in the program in order to ensure a safe and fun beach experience.

Each week students received instruction.

Dylan demonstrates effective paddling techniques.

Jr. Lifeguard Kana'i' is learning to control the board and use it as a rescue tool.

Hoku shows students how to use the board to keep the victim afloat.

Time to practice the techniques learned.

Aja is demonstrating step 2 of a board rescue - getting the victim onto the board.

Now how do you keep them on the board?!

Aja practices using the red flotation device to keep the victim (Dylan) afloat while swimming to shore.
