INNOVATIONS RECEIVES 2007 HAWAII DISTINGUISHED SCHOOLS AWARD

The Department of Education and Frito-Lay of Hawaii honored Hawaii's exemplary public schools at the Hawaii Distinguished Schools Program Awards Ceremony at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa on February 1, 2008. The program honors elementary and secondary schools that make significant progress in narrowing achievement gaps of their students or whose students achieve at the highest levels. Innovations was honored in three out of four categories: In Recognition of Continuous Progress, Distinguished Achievement, and 2007 Hawaii Distinguished Schools. The school received two banners to hang proudly at the school.

Innovations has been a Hawaii Distinguished School 2004, 2006 and 2007. Innovations ranks in the the top 2% in test scores for all public schools in the state elementary through high school. The school attributes the academic success of the students to master teachers and curriculum that is integrative, relevant and engaging for the learners.

Students Bowen Ressler and Sienna Levine, 5th-6th grade teacher Julie Wilmer and the school's Director, Barbara Woerner, represented Innovations' students and staff at the luncheon. Prior to lunch, the students took a tour of the hotel grounds and saw many exotic animals: penguins, ducks, carp, parrots, flamingos, king fisher, turtles, and a variety of fish. Highlights of the trip for the students: plane ride, escalator rides, bus ride, hotel tour, ono food, photo shoots with Tiger Ted, trip to Ala Moana Mall and receiving our school banner.

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our students (who love to learn and learn well) and our master teachers (who make learning challenging and fun) for earning this prestigious award for our school. Congrats also to all our charter school award winners.
